She contacted a black market baby broker and bought a baby boy. Sheila miscarried her baby earlier but kept it a secret. Both Sheila and Lauren were due around the same time. When the truth about the father of Sheila's baby came out, Scott felt obligated, divorced Lauren and married Sheila. At the same time Lauren also became pregnant by Scott but didn't tell him. In order to steal him away from Lauren, Sheila drugged Scott and slept with him, ending up pregnant. Nurse Sheila Carter arrived to work and immediately fell for Dr. Scott Grainger, a physician at Genoa City Memorial Hospital. Lauren's father Neil passed away, and naming her head of Fenmore Department stores while only in her twenties. This made Paul decide they should not remarry, but remain friends instead. Lauren's next trick was to enter a nude photo of Paul in a contest which ended up a magazine centerfold. Lauren lost their baby (which Paul didn't even know about) in the ordeal, but they were reunited. Paul and Lauren divorced, but Paul ended up rescuing her from Sean who had kidnapped her and left her buried alive in San Francisco. Paul and Lauren were happy for quite a while though until a stalker named Sean, came into her life and arranged for Paul to misunderstand their relationship. Paul's mother Mary felt Lauren was too flamboyant and all wrong for Paul.
Lauren finally became involved with and married Detective Paul Williams. She goaded and tricked Traci, who was very sensitive and insecure. Lauren was very good at getting her man, even at the expense of Traci's feelings.
It seemed like every guy Lauren fell for, Traci wanted too. Lauren spent her late teen years singing with rock star Danny Romalotti and rival Traci Abbott. Joanna didn't come back into her life until Lauren was out of high school. She was raised by her father, so they were very close. Lauren was the only child of wealthy Genoa City retailer Neil Fenmore and Joanna Manning who divorced when Lauren was a small child.
